Trimming trees has many benefits for not just the tree, but the rest of your landscaping. Thinning trees out allows more light to pass through them to your grass and other plants, allowing them to grow healthier and stronger. By pruning limbs that hang over your house, you can improve the amount of natural light that enters your house, while also limiting future damage. When limbs and branches hang over houses and other structures, they can be quite hazardous. Storms, high winds, snow buildup and more can cause these branches and limbs to crack, snap, and fall on your home causing significant damage. By having Tree Service of Troy trim and prune your trees, you can help insure that storm damages is minimized.

Why settle for less when you can hire the best? When you choose Tree Service of Troy to trim or prune your trees, you’ll be working with certified arborists that have the knowledge needed to ensure you have an amazing outdoor space filled with beautiful and healthy trees. Put our 39 years of experience to work improving the look of your trees, while also evaluating them for disease, damage, infestation, and other hazards.

    Tree Pruning Classifications

Crown cleaning a tree’s canopy consists of pruning dead and diseased limbs, excess branches, and crossing or rubbing limbs out of the crown of a tree.

Crown thinning consists of removing sucker growth or crossed/rubbing limbs to reduce wind resistance in wind storms and better allow sunlight to penetrate through the branches to other landscaping such as grass.

Crown raising is the act of removing the lower branches of the tree to lift the overall height of the crown. This allows for easier access under the tree’s crown, more sunlight to come through, or to clear an area for a structure.

Crown reduction focuses on decreasing the overall height, width, or both of the tree’s crown. It is both for visual appeal as well as helping to prevent possible damage to structures during storms.

Just as it sounds, this involves pruning out the dead and diseased limbs from a tree to insure the health of the remaining section of the tree. Diseased limbs are trimmed so that the infection cannot spread to live branches, while deadwood is removed primarily for safety reasons.

This one is quite obviously the removal of limbs that are close to a structure. This can be branches rubbing on structures, limbs close enough to allow animals such as squirrels to easily access a structure, or just to allow a more “open” feel surrounding the house or building.

Vista pruning is selectively done to allow better visibility. This could be better visibility out of your windows, at your other landscaping, or even something such as improving a clear path to see while exiting your driveway.

Typically used to create a nice round shape to a smaller tree or shrubbery for visual appeal.

Performing a “Nature’s Cut” on a tree involves removing the top or canopy off of a tree for safety concerns. I central spar is left so that living branches and limbs may continue to thrive, but the overall height of the tree is reduced to less than the distance from the tree to the closest structure to prevent possible damage if that tree should ever fall during a storm or other reason.
